Is to Word as Wave is to

Steel, wood, Plexiglas, water
9 wave tanks each 58″ high;
Plexi tanks: 8″ x 2″ x 24″
1999

The entire installation included nine of these wave tanks arranged in a line. The water line in each tank was calibrated to correspond to the height of my breastbone, so as to establish a visual plane of deep water. In order to maintain a constant and gentle wave formation, viewers had to continually rock each tank: they had to involve themselves in the work. Otherwise, the wave tanks would briefly rock, then very quickly and quite awkwardly shudder to a complete stop because the short tank length caused wave interference.
