Leah Garnett is an artist-teacher living in the Mi’kma’ki district of Siknikt – Sackville, New Brunswick – where she teaches drawing and sculpture in the Fine Arts Department at Mount Allison University. Her work has consistently examined how space is constructed, theorized, and experienced across the scales of architecture, landscape, and cosmology. In recent years, she has explored her relationship to growing up in the unceded Wabanaki Confederacy territory of the Maine woods and how that relationship has been shaped by cross-border settler family history, class, and house construction. Garnett has exhibited in Canada and the US and attended residencies at the Fire Station Artists’ Studios (Dublin, Ireland), the MacDowell Colony (Peterborough, New Hampshire), the Banff Centre for the Arts (Banff, Alberta), and Struts Gallery (Sackville, New Brunswick). She received her BA Honors from Brown University, her BFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and her MFA from the University of Guelph. Garnett is a member of the Hermes Gallery Collective in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
